Students in Pietermaritzburg can graduate with either a BSc or a BScAgric.
Programmes
- BSc Programme in Biological Sciences. This is intended for students who want general training in the Biological Sciences. Students graduating from this degree can continue with Honours in any of the biological (including Zoology, Entomology and Botany) or ecological disciplines.
- BSc Programme in Ecological Sciences. This is intended for students who want general training in the Ecological Sciences. Students graduating from this degree can continue with Honours in any of the biological, environmental, or ecological disciplines.
- BSc Programme in Ecological Sciences (Rangeland and Wildlife Conservation Stream). This is intended for students who want training in the Ecological Sciences with an emphasis on rangeland and wildlife management. Students graduating from this degree can continue with Honours in any of the biological, environmental, or ecological disciplines.
- BSc Programme in Environmental Sciences (Life Sciences Stream). This programme is jointly offered with the School of Environmental Sciences, and administered by them. This is for students who want to work with biology in a human or geographic framework, for example environmental impact assessment.
Majors
Majors in the general BSc This allows students to choose 2 different disciplines. You can choose one discipline from our list, and a second from those offered by other schools. Traditional choices include, for example, Cellular Biology and Chemistry.- Botany;
- Entomology;
- Grassland Science;
- Zoology.
BScAgric Students
BScAgric (Grassland Science). This is a structured four-year degree (equivalent to a three-year BSc + Honours) designed for students entering the agricultural field in a research, advisory or management capacity. The focus is on rangeland and pasture dynamics with a strong emphasis on rangeland ecology and management, and plant/animal interactions with a view to understanding complex systems in agricultural and game ranching situations.
BScAgric (Agribusiness / Wildlife Management Science Stream). This is a structured four-year degree jointly offered with the School of Agriculture and Agribusiness and administered by them. This is for students wanting to work in wildlife management in an agricultural context.
