About the research centre

The Research Centre for Plant Growth and Development is associated with the School of Biological and Conservation Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.  A major function and aim of the Centre is to foster high quality research and excellence in the three themes:  Plant Physiology, Plant Molecular Biology and Ethnobotany. 

A major driving force is to extend postgraduate research and training at the Honours, MSc and PhD levels on an interactive basis between plant-based disciplines.  The Research Centre for Plant Growth and Development has received the prize for the best research centre in the University of KwaZulu-Natal for three consecutive years.

Our main research areas include Plant Physiology, Plant Molecular Biology, and Ethnobotany. Please contact us for a copy of our Annual Report which contains detailed information on our recent research activities.
